The horrific suffering, frustration, impotence, sense of injustice and anger that those families and fans have endured for 24 year makes poogate and Gusgate pale into absolute insignificance.

100% This, disturbing watch.

I've now made a pledge to formerly tell anyone who blames football fans for Hillsborough, to f**k off.

The chief police officers in charge of planning for the match & the following cover up should take some of the blame for the Hillsborough disaster, but so should every football hooligan who ran amok during the seventies & eighties. There actions resulted in all top flight grounds (including the Goldstone ) having to erect pitch side perimeter fencing, without the perimeter fencing so many lives may not have been lost at Hillsborough.

Yea, and the people who made the fencing should also take some blame.

Jesus, talk about missing the point

What was so poor was that if the police had said "we got it wrong, we should have diverted people to the empty pens" then everyone would have said they were bad at their job. But the fact the police went to default option of telling lies is for me the real crime and those that lied should be prosecuted. Mistaes happen, but public servants should not think that they are allowed to lie about them. They should remember who pays their wages and why, its us, for our benefit, and not theirs.

Horrible b*st*rds in the black. Surprised they didn't have truncheons as well that day to batter the injured and dying over the head. That would have been the final indignity. Some of that footage was chilling and sickening. The lengths that South Yorkshire Police have gone to cover up the truth is absolutely staggering.

RIP the 96 innocent Liverpool fans. Never to be forgotten.

All so avoidable.

The rot set in with the decision to edit the statements in my view. Whoever called that would be first on my hit list. Wanting to blame the fans is completely different to doctoring evidence.

I just can't imagine having to go and identify 2 children.

Unfortunately the culture around footie across Europe in the '80s lead to fans being treated more as animals than sports fans. The fences were a quick fix to contain hooligans but quietly overlooking that locking people behind them might have other safety implications.

This was compounded by the FA selecting Hillsborough as the venue when there were already safety concerns and it did not have the full safety certification.

Then having made flawed strategic decisions it created the scenario for a disaster by having incompetent people in critical roles on the day who made fatally flawed decisions.

Steven Gerrard's cousin was one of the 96. He was just a few years older, played football with him, and apparently he idolized him.

No. Not all top flight clubs in the 1988/89 season. Arsenal, Liverpool, Luton Town, Norwich City, QPR, Southampton and West Ham (who had one of the worst reputations in the country at that time through the Inter-City Firm) - (ICF) decided against caging in fans as if they were Hannibal Lecter. 7 out of 20 grounds in the top flight.

All might be true but the fact is that police officers lied and corrupted themselves. We cannot allow this. Its not the first time, ask how many police officers went to prison after the Cardiff, Birmingham and Guilford scandals. Not one. The IPCC are not worth a candle. A crook in a uniform is still a crook, and there should be a force that investigates the police that has that on its cap badge and every honest officer should actively agree with that.

Whilst a number of the lessons learned in dealing with large crowds may have made stadia safer places for us to watch football, there are still a number of places where the potential for injury or loss of life still exists, and are being ignored.

The gross overcrowding and the crush on some of the trains to/from the Amex and on the platforms must give cause for concern.

May the 96 rest in peace.
