England batsmen trying to send the opposition to sleep, I think that is 34 consecutive dot balls. 43-0 after 22 overs. IPL it ain't!

Compton seems to be one of those batsmen that gets bogged down and then snaps and loses his wicket. It used to happen with Ramprakash and Hick I recall. I'm looking forward to seeing what Joe Root can do, I fancy he may be a future opener with Cook.

I think that's always been the plan with regards to Root. He would have opened earlier had Compton not come good in the recent series. Root and Cook I think are going to be one of the great opening partnerships in international cricket.

The most entertaining thing so far since lunch was Michael Holding talking about the groundsman at Lord's... Mick Hunt.

Trott gone... 112-3 (53.5 overs!)

Great catch in the slips by Brownlie.

Batting so slowly has put pressure on the middle order...
