Andy Murray endured a miserable 26th birthday as he retired from his Italian Open second-round tie against Marcel Granollers with a hip injury.

The Briton looked troubled throughout and now faces a battle to be fit for the French Open which starts on 26 May.

Spain's Granollers eased to the first set, winning 6-3, and led 2-1 in the second before Murray needed treatment.

Murray battled back to win the second set 7-6 but then withdrew before the decider to hand Granollers victory.

Back with a bang to win Queens for the third time.

Well done Andy!

Rally against cancer could be an amusing spectacle. Come on Tim!

Is he British again now? Never mind he'll be Scottish again once he gets knocked out of Wimbledon.

The single most compelling reason that I hope the porridge brigade vote for independence next year. Andy Murray will well and truly be nothing whatsoever to do with us normal people.

Or, it could be the most cringeworthy thing seen on TV since The Wright Way first aired.
