Atur Gabbiano, an Italian ex-POW, scored the winner for BHA at The Goldstone in May 1947, in our second to last game of the season, thus ensuring our promotion tilt went to the last game of the campaign. The opponents for the game were Crystal Palace, and our win meant that they were unable to finish in the promotion spots. We then won our last game of the season to gain promotion...

Gabbiano = Seagull = Yabba dabba do !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This I have verified on two different translation sites, can't find a source to confirm anything about an Atur Gabbiano. Frankly the coincidence seems to be so unlikely and far fetched that it is probably true. Care to point us to the source of the information?

Lovely story, only SLIGHTLY ruined by the fact that most of it is untrue! We did indeed play Palace in May 1947 and won 1-0 in front of a 'crowd' of 6,957. It was the last game of the season and the small crowd was because, far from getting promoted, we finished 17th in Division Three South and all the plastics had long deserted the team. Palace finished 18th!

Oh, and no one called Atur Gabbiano ever played for Brighton, much less scored!
