That 'pass-back'

Near the end of the game, one of the Palace centre halves hooked the ball back to Speroni who picked it up. Anyone who watched on tv clarify whether it could have been? Couldn't tell from where I was if it was done inadvertently or not - even if it was, can it still be ruled a pass back?

It would've been very harsh on Palace if they'd given a free-kick, because if that pass was on purpose, it was about the only one they made all night that went where it was supposed to.

Refs don't ever seem to care about back passes now.

I think a free kick (indirect?) was given in the Conference Play Off Final.

What is the actual rule on pass backs?

Surely it's not just on the basis of whether it's intentional or not?

It would have been very difficult for the ref to make a decision , considering in his mind did the Palace player have any control over where the ball was going or if it was intentional.
