Albion are set for a play-off semi-final against arch rivals Crystal Palace.
The fourth-placed Seagulls rounded off their regular season with a comfortable 2-0 home win over Wolves, who are relegated.
Meanwhile Palace held on to fifth place on an amazing afternoon of twists and turns in the places behind Albion.
Kazenga LuaLua scored two superb goals in the first half to seal Wanderers’ fate.
He cut inside to shoot right-footed past Dorus De Vries on five minutes, then went outside his man to drill in with the left on 39.
Wolves rallied after the break but Tomasz Kuszczak saved well from Kevin Doyle and Matt Doherty somehow headed over from close range.
Palace came from behind twice to win 3-2 at home to Peterborough.
They will host Gus Poyet’s men on Friday with the return match at The Amex a week on Monday.
Watford and Leicester will clash in the other semi while Bolton miss out on goal difference.*
