Gordon Greer and his defence have a great record
Gus Poyet wants Albion to enter the play-offs on a high as the mean machine of the Championship.
The Seagulls are already guaranteed fourth spot, their best finish for 30 years, and second leg home advantage against Crystal Palace, Bolton or Nottingham Forest.
Now Poyet has pinpointed a double incentive for his team to win with another clean sheet against virtually doomed Wolves at The Amex today.
Albion have lost just nine times and have let in only 43 goals in 45 games, records matched only by champions Cardiff who close their triumphant campaign at second-placed Hull.
Poyet is proud the side he has assembled with a reputation for stylish football are also so hard to beat and so difficult to score against.
The Uruguayan boss said: “I am not a stats person but the stats are there and right now we have lost the least games in the league and conceded the least goals in the league with the champions. That is there and nobody can take it away.
“The defensive part is how you train and make your team defend, depending on your qualities. It’s organisation, work, understanding, and that’s something you need to set up.
“I would like to finish with the least games lost and being the best defence in the league.”
Poyet is forced into defensive changes today, with Bruno ruled out until the play-off final by a calf tear and his right-back competitor Inigo Calderon suspended.
Former England left-back Wayne Bridge is also likely to be rested again to ensure a hamstsring niggle gets no worse before two games in four days in the play-off semi-finals.
