Albion’s pie supplier Piglet’s Pantry scored a hat-trick on Friday as they scooped the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes at the British Pie Awards.
The pies were voted the best in the country within the ‘Football Pie’ category with the Steak & Blue Cheese pie winning the top prize, the Steak & Ale pie finishing second, while the Butternut Squash & Spicy Vegetable pie completed the whitewash, finishing third.
Albion fans will be accustomed to the Steak & Ale and Butternut Squash & Spicy Vegetable pies, which have been regulars at the Amex throughout the season, but the Steak & Blue Cheese pie will be in the kiosks for the Albion fans to taste for the 2013/14 season.
Piglet’s Pantry managing director Jo Philips said, “We are absolutely delighted at winning the hat-trick: 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for the Football Pie category at the prestigious British Pie Awards is an achievement we are all very proud of.
“This is an incredible result for the hard work shown from the Piglet’s team and a tribute to the strong partnership between Brighton & Hove Albion FC and Piglet’s Pantry, so we look forward to continuing the great work.
“I would also like to thank all of the Albion fans for their loyal support and their very kind words throughout the last few seasons, and especially since winning these awards last week.”
Albion executive director Martin Perry added, "On behalf of the football club we wish Jo and everyone at Piglet’s Pantry many congratulations for their achievement.
“The pies have been a huge hit at the Amex over the past two seasons, with an average of around 8,000 being sold at every game, and that’s credit to Jo and her team for building such a strong connection with the Albion fans.
“When we moved to the Amex we gave the contract to a small local business, using local produce. It’s been brilliant to see them expand their business through the success of the partnership, and in turn that’s provided extra job opportunities within the Adur district, which makes us incredibly proud.
“We are delighted to have struck up such a positive partnership with Piglet’s Pantry, and we are so pleased that they have received the recognition they deserve for the quality of their pies.”
