Players not reaching expectation

I was thinking of players who have suddenly fallen from grace or not reached expected highs and thought of Joe Lewis the old Peterborough keeper who was tipped to play for England now no 2 at Cardiff. We had Glen Geard who Mullery said would be England captain one day but never made it in pro football. Who else comes to mind.

Just watching the FLS and wasn't Zavon Hines supposed to be a big thing at West Ham? Oh and there's always Danny Cadamarteri.

Francis Jeffers promised much at Arsenal but never reached the expected heights and is now at Accrington Stanley with James Beattie but then he is 32 now.

Another West Ham reject comes to mind - Freddie Sears.

Freddy Adu has to be one of the biggest names in this category. Sponsored by Nike around 13/14 years of age. Now doing not alot in MLS.

I've heard from a few people that Michael Standing was a better player than Gareth Barry from that crop, career never came to anything.

Cherno Samba! :lolol:

With respect to Joe Lewis though, the man has time and just needs to get himself a settled and ambitious Championship club who want to play him. Brad Friedel was turgid for Liverpool, and then he plodded off to Blackburn and he became one of the top keepers in the league. Now, at Spurs, his goose his entirely cooked and his run is over. But he's been superb.

He was class still only 26/27

Jake Caskey, played fir England at all youth levels, scored in 3 of 4 debut first team games, in which he was one of our best 3 players every game...had one tired game too far against a Premier team & was cast aside disrespectfully

JFC hasnt been cast aside just not ready yet but many cant see that and expect miracles too soon.

His father Darren Caskey was a reasonable example of a good player who went down hill fast after leaving Reading

I would like to nominate the entire England team during the Sven-Goran-Eriksson reign I seam to remember everyone thought it was the best midfield in the world and if we were ever going to win anything this was the time

Who would you play him in front of? Orlandi? Lopez? Vicente?! Bridcutt? Buckley??

What a load of bollocks.
