Clubs relegated from the Premier League will receive in excess of £60m over a four-year period from next season after the Premier League agrees new parachute payments for the next three years.

The Premier League is yet to confirm the exact figure, while the issue of solidarity payments to the Football League clubs is still to be finalised. Clubs relegated to the Championship currently receive £48m over four years.

That is from the BBC.

Frightening stuff. No pressure then lads!

Presumably TB has a substantial bet on us NOT to be promoted.

At a minimum ... then there's the money for each season in the Prem to add to that!

Seven wins in succession, just seven wins....

Like being in the FA Cup 2nd round, trying to win it.

Not to be sniffed at. But the money hasn't done much for Wolves and Blackburn's seasons.

Sad to hear promotion talked about in terms of money rather than a desire to see Albion compete regularly against the best teams in the land.

If we get promoted, and then come back down, we'll be then looking at 2 years with possibly the biggest budget in the Championship.

Wolves is an anomaly in that they could have afforded to replace expensive players with 'cheaper but still good players' but chose not to.

£60 million for a relatively debt-free club represents a massive opportunity to stabilise and be a permanent contender in the Championship at worst. Bolton and Blackburn had massive debts / wages that swallow up the parachute payments. One season in the Prem would generate enough parachute payments to cover the cost of the training complex and pay off the relatively modest debts we've racked up thus far.
