Music playing question

Can the great and good of NSC help please?

I wanted to play 1.5 minutes of the Clash's 'London Calling' at an event to promote
London for an event we're running in 2014 as a backdrop to a powerpoint
presentation.

The presentation is not in the UK. Audience -~ 40 people. non-profit.

Can anyone help on whether we have to apply for a license to play this?

I have the CD with said track on it - so have the track.

cheers.

Depends. Most UK venues will have licences to play music. As not in the UK it may be different. What country? If it's in a Hotel they will have a licence especially if they play music in the bar area. Personally I wouldn't worry about it unless Cliff Richard is invited.
