Albion’s development squad host Millwall tonight at the Amex, kick-off 7pm.Luke Williams’ Under-21 side are unbeaten in 2013 and still harbour hopes of making the play-offs, fresh off the back of securing a place in the Sussex Senior Cup Final last week.
Entry for fans with season tickets is free, and for non-season ticket holders it is £5 for adults, £2 for concessioAlbion’s Under-21 side maintained their pursuit of a play-off spot with a 2-1 victory over Millwall at the Amex Stadium.
A strong Brighton team, whose starting XI featured Andrew Crofts, Lewis Dunk, Peter Brezovan, Marcos Painter and Gary Dicker, remain in third place in the Professional Development League Two, two points off the second place they need to secure a place in the knock-out phase.
*
They were forced to come from behind, though, when John Marquis, who scored the winning goal in Millwall's FA Cup third round win over Aston Villa in January, tucked home a Connor Wilkinson cross in the seventh minute.
*
Albion's response was not long in coming, though, and they drew level two minutes later when Torbjorn Agdestein stabbed home from close range following George Barker's cutback from the right flank.
*
From then on, Albion's first-half domination was almost total, although Fred Onyedinma went close to restoring the visitors' lead when his free-kick flew narrowly over the bar in the 18th minute.
*
Brennan Dickenson and Jake Forster-Caskey both headed identical chances wide, but the latter then gave Albion the lead in the 27th minute.
Crofts got free on the right of the penalty area and squared to Forster-Caskey who slotted in from the edge of the area with a simple finish.
*
Dickenson was unlucky not to increase the hosts' lead shortly before half-time with a lashed drive across the goal, while at the other end Nathan Tyson's well-hit effort only just cleared the crossbar.
*
The second half was a much more subdued affair, lacking the tempo and intensity of the first, but Millwall twice had Yusef Mersin to thank for keeping the deficit to a single goal early in the second period.
First, he beat away Agdestein's well-hit drive and then kept out an angled Forster-Caskey shot as Albion pushed for the third goal that surely would have ended the game as a contest.
*
Solly March saw his header from a corner ruled out for an apparent push, and this failure to add to their tally almost cost Albion all three points.
Marquis headed against a post, and substitute Charlie Penny was then denied by Brezovan's good reactions as the visitors pushed for a leveller.
*
They were unable to find one, though, and Luke Williams' team held out for a hard-fought, and deserved, win that keeps them firmly in the hunt for a shot at promotion.
