Justin Fashanu did not quit the game because he was driven out by homophobia within the game. That's a massive error in the article. He wasn't helped by loss of form after leaving Norwich but it was knee injuries that ultimately forced him to quit, with him experiencing inner conflict between his homosexuality and the vehemently anti-gay stance of the particular brand of Christianity he chose to follow.

Even after he came out, he went on to play for top flight side Manchester City and also very successfully for Torquay, where he became assistant manager. He took his life because he was accused of sexually assaulting a minor and didn't wish to bring further shame on his family.

It doesn't say that. It said he killed himself due to torment from his coming out. Mentions nothing about him leaving the game

What I am saying is that the article's characterisation of his demise is solely focused around homophobia, not taking into consideration other aspects of his life. You're right, the article does not mention him quitting the game because of injury. That is one of the omissions I am talking about.

Further shame? What was the original shame for then?

Saying he had affairs with prominent Tory MPs (considering how despised the Conservative government was at the time, it was an amazing thing to say), carrying around with a soap star pretending to be in a relationship with Coronation Street actress Julie Goodyear, selling the pack of lies of the intimate details to the highest bidder, and some bizarre claims about predatory sex and footballers.
