The recent Easter matches and the media coverage of homophobic chanting reminded me of an incident at the Goldstone (Easter Monday 1979) v Bristol Rovers. It was hot and packed with over 32,000 fans as The Albion pushed for promotion from old league 2. With Brighton cantering to an easy 3-0 win, a small section of the north stand started abusing Rovers" black substitute Keith Brown to the tune of Boney M's 'Brown Girl in the Ring'. Poor lad running the gauntlet of the most hostile racism imaginable (common place in those days) . I felt so embarrassed for him but helpless in the face of such blatant abuse. He only played 7 league games in his career....I'm not suggesting the 2 are linked, but....
