I lived an hour's drive away for 13 years and always enjoyed my visits. Many of the old towns and villages in the area are also worth visiting, Minerve in particular.

Visited when holidaying in south west France many moons ago. Really nice unusual city.
Love to see it again sometime.

Has this thread started due to the great film Labyrinth on C4 right now, or a pure coincidence?

Good book. Somewhat lame film I think.

It took me a little while to work out what the place was missing.

We spent the week staying inside the World Heritage Site, nice bars and restaurants, inside and outside of the citadel.
Plenty of shops with the usual 'knights of the realm' tat, for the kids.

Stunning views inside and out, with said kids marauding around dressed as knights.
Running around, climbing over battlements, with 50ft drops.

What was missing was a single 21st century fence, railing, health and safety sign or fluorescent tabard.

It is as it was, and plenty big enough for everyone.

Is this the town with the medieval wall around it?
Think Arundel but with everything cranked up to 11.

and a frackin great wall holding it all inside.

We had friends that ran a small guest house restaurant in a book town called Montolieu up in the hills, its lovely around there, perhaps progress to the book shops when the kids are older.

Looks great at night with the walls lit up. Went to a restaurant there once that did the nicest cassoulet I have ever had!
