LEO Ulloa has been backed to continue spearheading Albion’s push for the play-offs.
The Argentinian leads the attack at fellow contenders Nottingham Forest today with eight goals in 11 outings for the Seagulls, including five in the last two home games.
He also scored in the last away match at Barnsley before missing a penalty and winger Will Buckley reckons Ulloa can cope with the responsibility of firing Albion to a top six finish as the only senior striker available to boss Gus Poyet.
Buckley said: “He has been a big star. He is that different kind of player. Obviously, we are going to miss Macca (injured Craig Mackail-Smith) but he is different to Macca the way he plays.
“Different players bring different things to the team and he has brought something we were missing.
“He has come in and scored goals and that’s what the fans want to see. But it’s not just his goals that he has brought to the team, it’s different aspects of his game that help us.
“He is there to score goals but he brings players into the game, which the gaffer wants. He has been brilliant since he arrived.”
Buckley and Kazenga LuaLua were effective dual suppliers for Ulloa on the flanks when Albion beat Crystal Palace in their last outing at The Amex.
It was the first time the wingers had started a match together this season and Poyet has to decide whether to persevere with the pairing away from home. Buckley said: “We know what Kaz can do. He can turn games. Hopefully there are attacking options for me and Kaz.
“For the Palace game it was the right option and it paid off. It’s difficult to say what team and what formation but as long as everyone is playing well you have got more chance of playing.
“Different games require different players, so it’s going to change for these last eight games. The team put out is hopefully going to be right for that game.
“You can’t really pick a team on one performance but hopefully me and Kaz can continue to link up.”
