Is Gus being properly supported

Transfers and loans are these days the responsibility of a team of people not just the manager. It's very disappointing not to get a loaner striker when we needed one. Why not?

1. Gus made a pledge to get one in. Is he personally responsible?
2. Money is always tight. Is it the budget. Other championship sides have made some good loan signings.
3. Is it inefficient management support?
4 is it just that no one good enough would/ could come?

If its lack of support the worry is that Gus might take the next well paid job at a club with money to spend -like Leeds.

I don't get the lack of any signing given Gus' strong statements on the subject.

Not sure where he would get one from. If you look at the Prem then (arguably) there's only really Fulham or Stoke with nothing to play for. So the rest will be holding on to everything they've got just in case ... he could have a sniff around their 3rd level but likely even Toby/Barker are better options

There's just been no availability, only need to look at the strikers that did move (after we knew we were in the cack) to see what was available

Clearly it's not a lack of support.

You don't pump 10's of millions into a club and then hand it all over to one man without a safety net.

I'm still not convinced we need one. People are acting like it's a fundamentally different craft to what we have. If we don't have strikers, then put Buckley up there, or LuaLua, both of them can finish and have speed. We have DS players on the bench who can come on, and we have midfielders who are scoring for fun.

I'll admit if we lose Ulloa then it's a problem, but we were never going to replace him with what was available in the loan window anyway.

Yes, he could have signed a striker if he really wanted to but clearly felt that those available weren't of any improvement on Agdestein or Barker. I think he has paid for not looking earlier as this season has seen some decent strikers sign for Championship clubs on loan, however if we had signed one of these then we may not have pursued Ulloa.

I think he could have been a good option. Did really well for Blackpool on his two loan spells in the past year or so. He'll now just become an impact sub at Wolves instead :(

very good, well done and all that, but don't really see the point.....they have happened, agreed, but were they suitable for us ? Don't think so.

I await with baited breath a public apology from Gus, just like he publicly promised we would have a striker in on loan before tomorrows' game !

there is of course the option that the player Gus wanted wasnt available and he wasnt just going to get any old plyer instead.

Gus has his budget and his spent it..No doubt it is not his fault though. This is not going to have a happy ending I promise you.

You remind me of Pootle, the Flump who walked around with his own cloud of misery permanently over his head.

Very much this. I'm not too fussed to be honest. Liverpool coped with just Suarez for the first six months of the season - with Shelvey stepping up to the plate as and when needed.

I thought Barker looked good against Barnsley, Toby can do a job. Buckley, Vicente and possibly Lua Lua could play there. Who knows, there may be a defender who could do a job a la Steve Foster or Dion Dublin.

It's only five games.

By the way, if we go up to the Premier League there won't be ANY emergency loan window.

Look at how many strikers Gus has tried. How many have been up to the job asked of them by Gus? Ulloa appears to be the real Mcoy, CMS in fits and starts, Barnes on occasions. The rest, and there have been quite a few, have been disappointing.

The problem is two fold, not many available strikers will be able to play the Gus way or don't want to come here. Not convinced it's all about money for a loan striker. Why would a Premier League bench player want to drop to be a Championship bench player?

Gus wants to play a certain way, without compromise therefore I can't see that the blame can be placed at the board's door that we haven't signed anybody.

Gus has had frankly amazing support imo given the outlay on the stadium and what I assume are above average wages for Championship players for most of the free transfers we have picked up.

If it's not good enough for him, as appeared to be the case in the Reading affair, then he should leave in the summer and I will be very grateful for what he has done. If he can't work within the restraints imposed then good luck to him. All I would expect is for him to see out the season.

It's only another clubs junk that's usually available on loan this time of year, if all we want is a body upfront we might as well stick with Barker.

If you want quality to come in on loan then you need a striker sitting on the bench in the Prem who is willing to move away for 2 months for no extra money and sit on our bench instead.

Kind of narrows it down a bit doesn't it.

Jackson was probably only willing to do it as he's out of contract and had a motive to come here.

Without a loan striker being drafted in we could be forced into a more attacking style which we saw against THE SCUM. Two wingers and one striker might achieve better results than one winger and two strikers.

We dont need a striker IMO,we need a goal scorer, and we have enough already at the club, there are plenty of strikers around who dont strike !
