Albion Women are aiming to retain the Sussex Women’s Challenge Cup tonight, as they take on Lewes in the final at Culver Road.It is a repeat of last year’s final, which ended 3-1 to the Seagulls, and will be the fourth meeting between the two sides this season.
Jay Lovett’s squad have already beaten the Rookettes twice this season; with 5-2 and 1-0 wins in the League and Premier League Cup respectively, as well as battling to a goalless draw at the Dripping Pan.
Both teams cruised into the final without conceding a goal and have scored 46 times between them on route to the county’s showpiece match.
Albion’s road to the final started with a mammoth 14-0 win at Seahaven, before a less convincing 1-0 win over Eastbourne Town, followed by sweeping Bexhill United aside 9-0 in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Lewes started their campaign with a similarly commanding 14-0 victory over Marle Place Wanderers, followed by a 7-0 victory against Chichester, and a tense 1-0 win over Crawley Wasps.
Manager Lovett has a strong squad to choose from for tonight’s game with defender Charlie Carter expected to be recalled after a lengthy absence through injury.
Kick-off is at 7.30pm at Culver Road, Lancing, and entrance is £4 for adults, £2 for concessions.
Albion squad from: Sole (GK), Cheshire, Carter, James, Waine, Ryan, Thompson, Rabson, Boswell, Barton, Agg, Gurr, Stenning, O’Hagan, Khassal, Somes.
