I am a Golden Retreiver owner and he has given me so much love and affection it is untrue. He is not well and nearly 15 now. I know one day, maybe soon the inevitable will happen and it will be devastating. How long did your Dog live for and what breed ? No one can ever underestimate the love between a Man and His faithful Dog.

I also had a Lurcher that made it to 16.

I wasn't allowed dogs when I was a kid,

I used to play and sing "daddy wouldn't buy me a bow-wow" on the piano.

I had a Golden lab ( well, half of her was ) that died at 16, 8 years ago.

To be honest, there's hardly a day that goes by that I don't think of her and I've never really got over it.

Her ashes are in my boy's bedroom, looking after him.

I know, believe me.

Our Chocolate Lab was 11 when she died of an illness that they could not define. We relocated a few time across Europe and she lived in the mountains in Switzerland and on the beach in Italy but was happiest in good old English muddy water playing with sticks. Still miss her after 4 years she was so special it will be a while before we have another.

We had a Yellow Labrador that lived until he was nearly 15. It hurt when he went but he had a good innings, and he'd been in some discomfort for his last few months.
We also had a Black Labrador who died from cancer when she was only 5. That was heart-breaking, and it took a long time to get over.

I think my Dog has enhanced my life so much. Just him being there 24/7 and when I get home so happy to see me. They are truely magnificent beasts. Loyal, noble and loving.

It wasn't that good.I've had better shits.

It's not really funny is it though ? Let's be honest as this sort of shit happens daily. If I caught someone doing that I would batter them into a pulp.

Sorry, the euphemism has clearly been lost there. At least i hope so because if i battered everyone going to the toilet into a pulp i'd expect to be in chokey by now.

Agree with that.

I've always said that if you stick your dog and your missus in the boot of your car and leave them in it for an hour, I know which one of the two will the happier to see you when you open it.

13 years my old Red Setter cross Labrador was when he died of Cancer. He knew it was time to go when he did not resist getting on the Vets table for the final jab. Has to have been one of the most upsetting things i have ever gone through. Twice before i had taken him and got to the Vets door and he pulled me back, basically saying it was not his time yet.
We still have his photo as pride of place even after his passing 14 years ago next month.
Now we have got a cat called stupid.

had a golden retriever who lasted until about 15 then died of cancer. i was about 11 when she died and was really cut up about it...

we got another retriever who is significantly smaller and 100% more bat-shit insane who is now 12 and beginning to slow down - its different this time as i've been about the whole time she has so i will definitely be very upset when she goes

can only echo what others have said about their dogs - dogs are the best, and ill definitely be getting my own as soon as i can

Have had two Old English Sheepdogs - Bongo, our first died of liver failure at 16, our second died of cancer at 13.

We now have two "Heinz 57" dogs, (collie, lurcher and labrador mix), both aged 8.

Wouldn't be without a dog
