[Albion] Players out of contract - Poyets future an issue

Who will be out of contract at season end? And with Poyet potentially positioning himself for move, Reading or otherwise, could we find our ability to gain signatures on new deals has just been diminished as players wait to see if they may get opportunity to follow him? Potentially on frees!

Lopez and Bridcutt immediately spring to mind.

When did Gus position himself for a move?

My understanding is Reading asked TB if they could speak to Gus and TB respected the process and Gus, by saying yes.

I don't recall any reference to Gus saying 'I'm off to Reading' or 'please let me speak to Reading'.

Gus would be an idiot to not hear what they had to say, and an even bigger idiot to say yes.

I think its fair to suggest Gus has been positioning himself for a Prem move for quite some time, and this season appears more in the frame than previously.

I don't hold that ambition against the guy, and frankly never expected he'd be here this long. His agent could have killed dead various rumours but that isn't in his interests clearly. More clout with Bloom, and potentially alerts others to possible availability. The constant comments about smaller than average budget have served both purposes too.

I agree with all you say there apart from the last bit about him being an idiot to say yes. We don't have a clue what Reading will offer him in terms of freedom and control. That's the key point. My hunch is that given the way they handled McDermott that they will have a lot of persuading to do to get Gus on board, but they have the cash he will want to spend and it remains to be seen whether they will be willing and able to meet his demands. I wouldn't be surprised if he turns them down, but one thing he isn't is an idiot.

It doesn't feel as if Gus has positioned himself for 'any old premiership job', and who could say how long Reading would be a premier league club.
We do have a smaller budget, how many of the 'constant comments' have been the result of a direct question?

I agree with all you say there apart from the last bit about him being an idiot to say yes. We don't have a clue what Reading will offer him in terms of freedom and control. That's the key point. My hunch is that given the way they handled McDermott that they will have a lot of persuading to do to get Gus on board, but they have the cash he will want to spend and it remains to be seen whether they will be willing and able to meet his demands. I wouldn't be surprised if he turns them down, but one thing he isn't is an idiot.
My hunch is Reading Ruskie is offering a massive 'bounty' to stay up.
No manager will walk in thinking of relegation, and will already be mentally spending their 6 possible even 7 figure reward.
Of course Gus isn't a idiot, that's not what I mean as well you know!!

I don't think Gus is all about short term, the here and now.
He has a plan to manager Chelsea (Christ know why) and I can see him getting nearer to that, with us, than a potentially volatile Reading.

To be fair out of the ones ending this season who would we really like to keep.
Obviously Upson and Bridge but both are loans
El Abd will probably sign if offered
Barnes has sell on value so should extend

Out of the players that are our players Lopez is the obvious one to tie down ASAP.

Of those out of contract in 2013 those in bold I reckon will be off, those in itallic unsure and those normal will stay.

Just my opinion, like. (And not including development squaddies)
