What format is the film in? cine, VHS, DVD, mp4, avi?

Please give us more to go on....

Things might have changed, but when I had one I had to import the file to iTunes then convert it to mp4 before it could be moved/played on the iPhone. Takes a while.

You don't have to convert it to mp4. iPhone plays avi fine through Azul (or other free AVI movie players).

I use HD Player or iMedia Player both free apps. On my iTunes they sit in a category at the bottom of my apps as apps that support file sharing - simply transfer the file into there and sync.
