Glenn Murray celebrates a goal
Former Albion star Glenn Murray has been backed to ignore the jeers of a record crowd at The Amex.
The Crystal Palace striker chases a 30th Championship goal of the season when he leads the attack against his old club tomorrow.
Palace boss Ian Holloway has played down the partisan reception Murray could get from Seagulls supporters.
Holloway told player.cpfc.co.uk: “They are behind the barriers, he’s on the pitch.
“Hopefully it will be tough for their defenders to try and stop him.
“Part of playing football is ignoring what everybody says and doing what you are supposed to do.
“He has got 29 league goals so I want him to get past that barrier of 30.
“Can he do at the weekend? It would be great if he did.”
Holloway reckons Murray will make the Championship team of the year, as voted for by fellow players.
He added: “It’s normally people with pace who stand out. They chase something and get there and everybody remembers that but there’s an awful lot of skill in what Glenn does that people don’t normally see.
“I would be very surprised if he wasn’t in the Championship team of the season picked by his peers.
“They know how good he is and how hard he is to mark.
“Last Saturday’s equaliser (to force a 2-2 home draw against Leeds) was quite exceptional.
“The run he made, the timing of it and the finish at the end of that were completely sensational.
“When you work close to somebody it is easy to see their quality.”
