Gordon Greer is fit to face Palace
ALBION boss Gus Poyet has no fears about throwing captain Gordon Greer straight back into the cauldron of Sunday's derby against Crystal Palace at The Amex.
Poyet has backed his leader to come through the test after just two minutes of first team action in the last seven weeks.
Greer has not started since tearing a hamstring in the FA Cup tie against Arsenal at the end of January.
He made a last-gasp appearance as a substitute to help the Seagulls secure a 1-0 home win against Burnley last month but the centre-half combination of on-loan Matt Upson and Adam El-Abd has kept the experienced Scot on the bench.
Greer will form a new partnership with Upson against prolific former team-mate Glenn Murray, Kevin Phillips and company for Palace, with El-Abd starting a two-match suspension for his tenth caution of the campaign at Barnsley on Tuesday.
Poyet told The Argus: “I am not bothered at all. He has been training very well, he has been doing extra training. He is a professional, as I expected as the captain.
“When he came back Matt and Adam were doing very well and we were keeping clean sheets. We knew as well that Adam was a yellow card away from a ban and it was a matter of time before he got his tenth.
“Depending how we do with Matt and Gordon we'll see in the future.”
