[h=3]Albion bid to end Oakwell drought[/h]6:30pm Tuesday 12th March 2013 in Albion By Brian Owen
Albion are chasing a first win and first goal in three games tonight.
Not just this season but also in respect of their record at Oakwell.
The Seagulls ground out a dull 0-0 draw here on the final day of last season and were beaten 1-0 in August 2003 when Kevin Betsy was on target.
Their last success here came in August 1991 when they won 2-1 with goals by Bryan Wade and Mark Barham.
Tykes fans still fondly recall a League Cup tie at Oakwell back in 1981/82 when Albion were in the top flight.
Steve Gatting gave Albion an early lead but Ronnie Glavin levelled and central defender Mick McCarthy headed the second division hosts in front – all inside 20 minutes.
Trevor Aylott then took centre stage with a 35-yard lob and an impressive header which had Seagulls boss Mike Bailey admitting Barnsley, managed by Norman Hunter, looked “every inch a top first division side.”
Albion have taken seven points out of nine off Barnsley since returning to the Championship.
Success tonight for the Seagulls would level the overall series at 15 wins apiece.
