Sussex to unveil 2nd Overseas T20 player tomorrow

On the Sussex CCC website - any ideas who it might be? Who would you like in?
Wouldn't mind Dwayne Smith back myself!

Don't think it will be Smith, as much as I enjoyed him. Not really sure who though! Hoping for a batsmen. Batsmen win you a game more often than a bowler. A bowler only affects 1/5the game! If the other bowlers got toinked then his figures may be a bit worthless.

Couldn't give a toss about T20. Its the devils spawn as far as I'm concerned. Cricket should have worked out better ways of raising revenue than this garbage. The County Championship ( breeding ground for Test players ) is now having to start so early in April, the clocks have hardly changed and go on so late in the season ( well into September ) they have to sweep dew off the outfield, all because this rubbish has to take place in mid-summer with the longest days available.
Yes...I know you are all gonna jump down my throat and tell me the game would have died without it, keeps County Clubs afloat and attracts lots of new spectators but it still doesn't sit comfortably with me. Most of the new spectators are not cricket fans. They won't be flocking to the County Championship or Test arena.
E.g. " Oh...I don't normally like cricket but I enjoy T20 "....is the usual response.
Players play so much of it now that it is inevitable that bad habits will pervade other areas, most notably the Test arena. ( Count the number of England players that threw their wickets away with poor shots today ) A lot of players simply cannot cope mentally with switching from blind slogging to battling over two or three sessions in Test match, against high class opposition.
But to those of you enjoying sipping beer at 9.00pm whilst another front foot goes in the direction of mid-on and another cross-batted slog goes high in the air, I say enjoy it while it lasts. I shall content myself with watching the proper form of the game.

To be fair Sussex do tend to have lots of players that specialise, Collymore, Panasar for example in CC, Beer and Liddle in 20/20. Whatever we think two factors are important to the club, the young players love it, big crowds and great atmospheres, and clubs like us and Somerset make lots of money from it, (even if the crowds are more rowdy and just not cricket) these 1-3 off punters pay top dollar, buy food, drink and tat which in turn helps us sign players like Hammy and Magoffin to have a go at CC Div 1.

The fixtures have been changed this year after we all filled out the ECB consultation last summer that was doing the rounds. So we play two LVCC games in July and one at the end of June as well as 20/20 games. I have not seen if the ideas on the consolation about playing games LVCC games at night and over weekends has been passed, but its very difficult to satisfy either end of the cricketing spectrum, older members and younger ones, trying to increase revenue and get new people to splash out £170-220 on a 2013 membership.

If you have to ever go just get a seat in the pavilion and your away from the ruffians.

See I think Twenty/20 is good for the game. It attracts spectators to the game who want a fast paced game of cricket instead of seeing 5/6 block the ball for 6 hours. It's the CB/40 that I don't like or the 50 over games.

hmmmm see I like the balance the 1 day / 50 over games bring. 5 days is pushing it if I'm going to watch though I will generally watch a whole day and a couple of other sessions. 20/20 is just school yard messing around to me and more a 'show' with people there for the music and atmosphere as much as the cricket :shrug:
