Sinkholes are back!!!

Sadly for the Bush family of Florida.

All walls razed at Florida home where sinkhole devoured man - CNN.com

Officials have said Jeff Bush's body won't be recovered. It remains buried somewhere in the sinkhole that stretches 20 feet wide and more than 50 feet deep.


Still a way to go to compete with the thread now over on 'other stuff' from a couple of years ago, that produced this beauty:-

They are found in some counties over here Herts and Sussex being 2 i believe

I was all set to post the link, as I can't beat a bit of geology, and love some of the sinkhole photos, when as an afterthought I figured I'd best acknowledge the poor man's death (I'm a bad bad amateur geologist).

Sorry for the confusion, although there would be a poetic justice in the Bush family being swallowed up by the planet they've pillaged.

Tis very sad, especially as the family won't ever have a body to bury.

My knowledge of sinkholes essentially comes from the Simpsons movie, so I can't profess to know much about them. Assume it's just a case of an underground hole caving in and taking everything above it in?

It's the limestone 'crust' dissolving through an acidic reaction, to whatever.

Hence Scream saying we can get them.

Check out Mount Gambier in South Australia Umpherston Sinkhole - Mount Gambier, South Australia
Full of sinkholes, caves and a wierd lake that turns bright blue in the summer. Spent some time working there
and found it a very odd place to be.
