Talking point on Radio Derby today that R/R have 'paid no tax' (?) however can anyone recall R/R i n the 70,s ?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolls-Royce_RB211

I worked at RR in Derby a while back - its all Trent engines now for most civilian aircraft.
The RB211 was indeed a masterpiece in new jet technology and knocked the spots off Pratt & Whitney and General Electric offerings at the time.
Trent is still the preference for long-haul reliability.
Little known fact - RR engines are used in our Trident sub fleet.
