As far as I'm aware they were given permission last night to finish the project and it will open as a cafe and water sports center. Those who are familier with the area will know its stood half built for about 5 years or so, great news!

Wonder what sort of business the cafe will do during the winter..bit isolated...also will the cafe be a threat to the existing 'kiosk' type thing next to it

A lot of cyclists go past also dog walkers so might do well ( carrots does well over Southwick beach & that's well hidden) plus I think the current cafe kiosk there is just seasonal

Couldnt agree more. What a blot on the landscape this has been. Always taking walks starting at beach green and along past widewater into Shoreham and back. Many people do the same and always gets my goat when people ask where they can get a drink or something to eat as the snack bars at both ends are closed for winter. Goring and Ferring have had it right for years with their cafes on the front.

Well the old Mermaid Cafe and the kiosk 'thing' co-existed for years. The kiosk was handy if you were just passing by whereas the cafe was good for a sit-down meal. Well I say 'good', like all establishments it went up and down over the years and towards the end it was dire.

Builders ignored planners re height of building & no'one now is bothered??
Ugly blot on the landscape that disgracefully over dominates the sky/ sea views & would be better demolished & smaller non tin box rebuilt in its place

Yeah, regeneration of the area, revenue from tourism and something for kids to do. Should leave it as it is though. Moron.
