2013 remains an unbeaten year for Albion’s development squad as they defeated Barnet 4-0 at Culver Road.Goals from top scorer George Barker,* Solly March and a first Albion strike from Rohan Ince were enough to give Luke Williams’ side a sixth straight victory.
Albion controlled the majority of the game with the visitor’s main threat coming on the counter attack and it was Albion who carved out the first opportunity.
The impressive March drilled a low effort that was saved by Dillon Barnes early on. The midfielder then burst through the Bees defence* but was unable to apply the finish as he placed* his shot wide.
Barker, who is accustomed to putting the ball in the net, inadvertently prevented Albion from taking the lead as March’s goal-bound strike hit the forward* on the line and bounced wide.
First-team winger Kazenga LuaLua’s power and experience crafted the opening goal in the 31st minute as he stormed past Jamal Hackett on the left before presenting Barker with the easiest of tap-ins at the far post.
Moments later LuaLua again proved too much for Hackett as he made his way into the area, this time teeing up Agdestein who forced a good stop out of Barnes, however the goal would not have stood as Barker was obstructing the keeper’s view from an offside position.
Prior to the break LuaLua’s trademark powerful drive proved too much for Barnes to handle although he recovered and collected the loose ball before Albion could capitalise.
Rodgers’ toe-poked effort was unable to find the better of the Bess keeper as Albion continued to probe the visitor’s defence in search of a killer second goal.
Then Ishmail Kamara’s audacious lob from distance nearly caught out Peter Brezovan as it dropped* inches wide, before George Sykes dragged a glorious chance wide when played through.
Albion cold have doubled their advantage after Barker’s pace once again proved too much as he raced onto Rodgers’ through ball; the forward then laying the ball back for Agdestein who screwed his strike over.
But the Norwegian soon made amends for his miss as he cut the ball back for March to place the ball under Barnes to make it 2-0.
And with ten minutes left substitute Ince added some gloss to the result with an excellent effort that crashed in off the bar before Barker passed home in injury-time to complete the scoring.
Albion: (4-3-3) Brezovan (GK); Akubuine, Dunk, Maksimenko, Sampayo; Rodgers (Ince 73), Richards (Battipiedi 73), March; Barker, Agdestein (Goodwin 73), LuaLua. Subs not used: Smith (GK), Jones
