Brighton & Hove Albion have confirmed season-ticket prices for the 2013/14 season, with minimal increases of between 2% and 5%.*
For those paying by the club’s unsecured and interest-free direct debit scheme, payments will rise by between £1.46 and £4.58 per month for adults, and between £0.50p and £2.29p per month for under-18s, depending on the area of the stadium in which the supporters sit.
It is also necessary to increase the travel subsidy element of the season ticket prices from £30 to £50 and from £15 to £25 for concessions, making it just over £2 for a majority of adult fans to get to and from the Amex for each of the matches by public transport, or to use the club’s park-and-ride scheme.*
Those season-ticket holders paying by direct debit will automatically renew; lump sum payers have until 5th April to pay for their ticket in full, or until 15th March to convert to pay by direct debit.
Any season-ticket holders wishing to cancel are asked to advise us as soon as possible, but NO LATER than 27th March. A full breakdown of the key dates is below, and full season-ticket price details, including monthly payment amounts, can be found here.
Albion chief executive Paul Barber said, “It is necessary to increase season ticket prices for next season but the club has done its very best to ensure that the increases are as reasonable as possible, recognising the difficult economic climate. As such, the price increase breaks in to two parts.
“The board and our executive team have debated the issue of season ticket pricing for many weeks. We are all aware of the tough economic climate and how this has been affecting our fans, but we also have to be mindful of the challenges the club faces in light of the Financial Fair Play rules we have outlined.
“I've also listened to fans' views, some of which have been expressed at the various supporter group meetings I have attended in recent weeks and months, some in writing to me personally, and others from passing conversations at the stadium on matchdays or in chance meetings around and about the city.
“All of the opinions I've heard have been both reasonable and very welcome and, whilst I'm sure all fans would rather there be no increase in ticket prices at all, most seem to accept that an increase is necessary in order to support the club's overall financial objectives of increasing revenues and reducing costs.”
On the subject of the travel payments, Barber also added, “I'm well aware that some fans do not believe that they should have to pay the travel subsidy because they do not use the train or bus services to the stadium but the travel subsidy isn't just about trains and buses.
“Our travel plan commitment included building new road junctions, developing and hiring car parks, providing cycle routes and cycle parking, and improving footpaths. The travel plan also provides for club stewarding for many of these different modes of transport.
“The travel subsidy, paid for by everyone is actually used by everyone in some way when getting to and from the stadium and we mustn't lose sight of the fact that putting in place a comprehensive and accessible transport plan was a key element of the club being granted planning permission for the wonderful stadium we now have and we all enjoy.
“The club’s direct debit facility is very popular but supporters are reminded it is in effect an unsecured, interest free loan the club provides. Albion are very proud to offer this significant benefit to the fans to support the purchase of their season tickets - and want the scheme to continue – but the club requires the cooperation and support of all fans using the facility to ensure this can happen.
“The costs to the club of operating this scheme are high and they increase significantly if the club is required to chase up fans who miss monthly payments. It is therefore very important for fans to ensure that their bank details are kept fully up to date and payments to the club are made on time.
“Supporters who fail to do this will incur penalty fees, possibly miss matches, and may even lose the right to use the direct debit scheme.”
Please note: from the 2013/14 season, away supporters will be accommodated as far as possible (and subject to various different allocation requirements for different teams) in blocks S1D, S1E, S1F, S1G and S1H.
Current ticket holders in sections S1G and S1H will be given an early option to re-locate to other areas of the stadium (see timetable) to allow these operational changes to be made from the start of next season.
The club apologises for any inconvenience this may cause to some fans who have to move but we do need to maximise use of the stadium for all matches and provide Albion fans with the best possible seats.
Looking ahead, participation in the Premier League would require the club to make up to 3,000 tickets available to visiting supporters, while FA Cup matches already require the club to provide up to 15% of the capacity for away fans. It is important that we make the necessary operational adjustments at this time and start to understand this new crowd dynamic for the Amex.
