Three goals in five second half minutes completed an astonishing comeback as Albion’s development squad ran out 3-1 winners at QPR.
In freezing conditions Luke Williams’ side struggled to gain any control of the game until the latter stages, as the hosts pinned Albion back for long periods, but an extraordinary five minutes turned the game on its head.
David Fitz-Patrick had given the hosts a deserved lead on 76 minutes but Williams’ side soon hit back through Solly March.
George Barker’s magnificent strike put the Seagulls ahead just two minutes later and Brennan Dickenson wrapped up the points moments later.
The result keeps Albion’s unbeaten run intact for 2013 as they gathered their fourth straight victory.
It was the hosts who started the brightest, pressing Albion heavily and forcing them into errors but the Rs were unable to break the deadlock.
Tom Hitchcock scuffed a good opportunity after some fine build-up play, before Charlie Oatway dragged Albion’s best chance wide just past the half-hour mark.
Rangers should have gone in at half-time ahead after Hitchcock flicked the ball through for the impressive Angelo Balanta, but after steadying himself the forward fired his shot narrowly wide with only Grant Smith to beat.
Albion started the second half in more positive fashion; Torbjorn Agdestein and Shamir Goodwin combining only for the latter’s shot to be deflected behind for a corner.
Hitchcock again saw a chance go begging for the Premier League club, as his turn and shot on the six yard box ended up safely wide.
Fitz-Patrick flashed a shot wide on 70 minutes, but that turned out to be a mere warning from the substitute who soon opened the scoring; the Rangers forward unleashing a powerful drive past Smith.
But the goal seemingly sparked Williams’ side into life, as they bounced back within five minutes of falling behind.
March hassled Max Ehmer into a mistake, stripping the ball off the defender before breaking into the box and firing a low shot past Aaron Lennox.
Two minutes later Albion completed the comeback when Barker showed the match-winning qualities he possesses with a brilliant dipping effort that flew into the net.
And to complete the blistering five minute spell, Brennan Dickenson broke through on goal, prodding the ball past Lennox to cement an impressive victory.
Albion: Smith (GK); Sampayo, Ince, Maksimenko, Hunt; Richards, Oatway (Barker 56), Battipiedi (Rodgers 46), March; Goodwin (Dickenson 61), Agdestein. Subs not used: Akubuine, Jones.
