Liam Bridcutt has admitted the result meant everything as Albion edged closer to the play-offs.
The Seagulls are two points off the top six after yesterday’s 1-0 win over Hull City.
Bridcutt has conceded he was not too worried about the manner of the performance.
He said: “You see with the celebration how much it meant.
“We knew before the game we had to win, no matter how we played or how it was going.
“We just knew we had to get three points.”
Bridcutt was named skipper in the absence of Gordon Greer and Inigo Calderon.
He admitted: “It was a bit of a shock.
"The gaffer called me over before the game and asked if I wanted to be captain.
"It was good to lead the team out and have that responsibility.”
