Charlie Oatway takes the acclaim after his winner against Hull in 2005
Albion are aiming for a first goal in four games against Hull City today.
But they have an enviable record at home to the Tigers down the years.
Last season’s 0-0 draw at The Amex meant they have still lost just once at home to the Humberside club in 22 meetings.
Their last win – and last goal – against Hull came just before Christmas, 2005.
Charlie Oatway was the scorer in the last full game of his career. His playing days were ended by a broken ankle suffered in the next game, at home to QPR.
Former Albion manager Peter Taylor was in charge at Hull back then. He saw Stuart Elliott head the Tigers into an early lead before Seb Carole replied from long range.
Oatway’s goal was a clever curler into the top corner of the western goal at Withdean from the edge of the penalty area right on half-time.
Since then the sides have shared two goalless draws last season before sub Jay Simpson got the only goal of their first-day clash this time around.
Russian star Sergei Gotsmanov scored a famous goal to clinch a 2-0 Seagulls win at the Goldstone in April 1990, rounding goalkeeper Ian Hesford and then celebrating BEFORE he put the ball in the net.
Hull’s win in Sussex was by a 2-1 scoreline in August, 1965.
