The greatest annual sporting event takes place in New Orleans tonight.

KO is 23:30 and choices of BBC2, BBC HD or Sky Sports with Beyonce doing the half-time show.

Really looking forward to this and hopefully a 49ers win.

Niners and mimers.
My money is on a comfortable win by the Niners, and a sidebet that Beyonce will mime. Again.

I'm in the States at present so am surrounded by SuperBowl mania at every turn, in every paper and on every TV channel in some form or another.

A shame, in a sense, that I can't make head nor sodding tail of how the game works.

A useless - but interesting - Superbowl fact...

in the 2008 Superbowl 42 halftime show, Steven Ferrone, the Brighton-born drummer of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers kept his head warm by wearing a Seagulls woolly hat.

Remember that well, suspect Beyonce will be pretty poor, the old sleaze bag Madonna wasn't much good last year.

The last good half-time show was Black Eyed Peas

I'll be there, well here, but you know what I mean.

The plan is get the kids off to bed, usual time.
Sort out the dogs then turn in myself for 3 hours.
Up for kick off, then back to bed at 2:30.

Never tried your technique before it could resolve the blackout about 2.30-3.30 I have experienced the past three years.

I have a sneaky feeling that Baltimore may nick it, if they stop the running and Flacco hits Torrey with a couple of bombs...

Lets hops its a good match

I don't see the appeal of the Super Bowl.
What even is it? Is it like the FA Cup final of American Football?

I think I read somewhere that the average Super Bowl match lasts 4 and a half hours start to end, not including the pre- and post-match analysis/talks.
Each quarter lasts 15 minutes, half-time is about half an hour, so there are 45 minutes of adverts or stoppages for every 15 minutes of game-time?
Seems utterly ridiculous to me.
The average face value of a ticket to watch the Super Bowl is $800.

Think Champs league but involving ALL teams that play football.

In the old days yes, but they have sharpened up things taking a good hour off of that.

Half time is 15 mins, maybe longer tonight.
It all depends on 'clock management', but they do love an advert, in the US

Well, that's fine. If it doesn't appeal to you, go to bed instead. Simples.

Sorry totally disagree with you on this. Greatest sporting event? Only if you believe the American hype.Stop,start. What sort of game stops for adverts. Each to their own.
Don't even get me started on calling it football.!!

i fancy the Ravens

don't have to be at work until 11 so going to try and stay up for it this year. It's the half time show that usually sends me to sleep, when you're already tired and it's as long as it is it's just too much for me.

Fancy the 49ers to win quite comfortably in the end tonight.

I'll try and get a few hours before getting up for kickoff. If that fails I might have to grab a few red bulls to make it through the night.

I wouldn't make it otherwise.

Asleep on sofa by 10:30, wake with a start at kick off which sees me through the first quarter.
Then left arm over my head and asleep again before the end of the half.
Wake up with 2 mins to go.

This way I get enough quality sleep to see me through the game, and I'm ready for part 2 by 3am.

I'd love to stay up for it but never manage to. So I'm going to record it and watch it tomorrow. I'm not sure who I want to win. Maybe Baltimore as they are the underdogs.
