Centre-back Adam El-Abd told seagulls.co.uk that he is looking forward to returning to Championship action after the Seagulls were knocked out of the FA Cup last weekend by Arsenal.
Despite a spirited performance, Albion succumbed to a 3-2 defeat to their Premier League visitors but El-Abd says he is now focused on the side’s promotion push.
He said, “The cup dream is over but we gave a good account of ourselves against Arsenal and Newcastle. We got knocked out by a team with a lot of quality but that is football.
“Now we are down to our bread and butter which is the league campaign and we look forward to rolling our sleeves up and giving it a really good go in challenging for the play-offs.”
Captain Gordon Greer will miss the trip to Hillsborough to face Sheffield Wednesday after limping out of last week’s cup tie, but Albion’s Egyptian international is confident whoever steps in will provide adequate cover.
“Obviously Gordon is the skipper and has a big influence; he is always there, he never gets injured, so to have him on the injury table is something new for everyone.
"Hopefully we can cope and continue the solid defensive shape we have shown this season, otherwise we are going to get beat.
“We need to make sure everyone is on their game and playing well to get the result. It is a chance for someone to play and I am positive whoever comes in will be ready for it.”
