And neither side created a clear opening in the first 45 minutes, with Dobbie missing the best opportunity of the game when he thrashed the ball over the bar from close range.
With the match seemingly heading for a goalless first half, March’s ball across the face of the Ipswich goal was inadvertently turned into his own net by Whight to give Albion the lead.
The rain relented for the second half and Albion came out with more purpose than they had shown in the first 45, almost doubling their advantage on 50 minutes when Dobbie stabbed over the bar from close range.
With conditions improving, chances were created by both sides and Ipswich almost levelled as Thomas Winter headed wide.
Williams’s side where then awarded a perfect opportunity to put some daylight between them and Ipswich when awarded a penalty on 59 minutes; David October tripping Ben Sampayo just inside the area.
However Dobbie was unable to find the target as his wayward penalty sailed over the bar.
Kyle Hammond then provided a vital intervention when he cleared Hoskins’s effort off the line. The Albion forward’s turn and shot was well blocked by Michael Crowe in the Town goal but was dropping into the net before Hammond’s clearance.
Dobbie then* tried to atone for his penalty miss as he stung the palms of Crowe, and substitute Brennan Dickenson also came close with a curling effort that dropped over.
But Dobbie then turned provider as his exquisite first-time pass played in Hoskins who calmly stroked the ball past Crowe to make the points safe.
Marcos Painter almost added a third when he fired just wide late on before Hoskins’s excellently controlled volley found the top corner to make it 3-0.
Ipswich had an excellent save from Crowe, and the post to thank late on, as Albion searched for a fourth, but the visitors could not prevent Dobbie from finding the net in the dying minutes, as he delightfully lifted the ball over Crowe to complete the rout.
