Albion's first-team coach wants the side to start taking their chances in front of goal...
First-team coach Charlie Oatway wants to see Albion become more clinical in front of goal.
*
The Seagulls dropped two points in injury-time at the weekend at Birmingham when Nikola Zigic heading in a late equaliser, and Oatway feels Albion can avoid such results by opening up bigger cushions on their opponents.
*
He told seagulls.co.uk, “We are playing well but we need to starting putting teams away when we get the opportunity to punish them. If we had done that at Birmingham we would be sitting here with a couple of extra points.
*
“If we get that early goal and we make a couple more chances, we have to make the most of them, and that isn’t just the centre forwards, that is everyone.
*
“We need to start burying those chances we get and take a little bit of the pressure off ourselves, unlike what we are doing now where we are missing the opportunities then conceding.”
*
Albion’s previous trip to Blackburn was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and the rearranged fixture tomorrow is the Seagulls’ game in hand on their play-off rivals, but Oatway does not underestimate the task ahead.
*
“They are a club going through a couple ups and downs, with the foundations they are trying to lay and what they are trying to achieve. But they still have some fantastic players and are a Premier League club, so it’s going to be a tough game to go there and get a result. It is a massive fixture.
*
“It’s important to get a result though, as we want to be as high as we can, as quickly as we can and then stay up amongst the top teams.
*
“We want to bounce back from what happened at Birmingham and it’s a long journey so we want to be back in the early hours of Wednesday morning with three points under our belt."
