Albion Women secured safe passage to the third round of the FA Women's Cup with a 9-2 demolition of Westfield...
Albion Women cruised through to the third round of the FA Women’s Cup following an emphatic 9-2 win at Westfield.Four goals from Lily Agg alongside braces by Kim Stenning and Faye Rabson completed the crushing victory, with Charlotte Gurr also grabbing a debut goal.
Albion’s top scorer Stenning broke the deadlock in the seventh minute to set the tone for the afternoon. Rabson capitalised on Charley Boswell’s ball into the box and set up Stenning to slot home a left-footed shot past Westfield keeper Emily Bourne.
Ten minutes later Agg scored her first goal of the afternoon when Boswell produced another long ball into the area; Stenning laid the ball off for Agg, who cut inside the hosts’ defence and coolly placed her shot beyond the reach of Bourne.
Westfield’s hopes of an upset were effectively dashed when Agg leapt to head in Seagulls’ third goal after meeting Darcey James’s long cross into the area in the 28th minute.
The 19-year-old completed her hat-trick with eight minutes of the first-half remaining as she fired a low strike past Bourne.
Despite the comfortable scoreline the hosts continued to press Albion on the counter-attack and Hannah Pearson saw her goal bound* effort cleared off the line by Lauren Cheshire.
But it was Jay Lovett’s side who struck next as they added a fifth goal two minutes after the restart. Debutant Charlotte Gurr heading in after a game of head tennis inside the box.
Stenning made it six in the 55th minute after latching onto a through-ball by Kirsty Barton and just a minute later Agg completed her haul with a close-range strike to make it 7-0.
The home side then had something to show for their efforts as Laura Low met Hannah Searle’s cross; firing her shot in off the bar.
Rabson added Albion’s eighth on the 67th minute before Low took advantage of a defensive error and shot past keeper Charlotte Sole in the Albion goal.
There was still time for the Seagulls to add extra gloss to the scoreline, as substitute Briony Parks ran to the byline and slid the ball into Rabson who tapped home at the far post to complete the resounding victory.
Albion (4-3-3): Sole (GK); Cheshire, Ryan (c), James, Carter; Agg (Somes 68), Barton, Gurr (Parks 71); Boswell (Adams 75), Stenning, Rabson. Sub not used: Mangan.
