Albion were undone by a strong Stoke City side...
Albion have been knocked out of the FA Youth Cup after losing 4-0 to Stoke City at the Amex.
The Seagulls looked assured in possession during the early stages, but were ultimately undone by a powerful and clinical Stoke side.
Elliot Levy was a constant threat down the right for the home side and got the better of Stoke left-back Joel Taylor to create Albion's first chance - but his shot drifted wide.
At the other end, keeper Luke Colquhoun was called into action as he made a brilliant point-blank save to block James Alabi’s back-post header for the visitors.
Then moments later the opener arrived for the Premier League youth team, and a quality finish it was with winger Jack Nardiello beating Colquhoun with a delicate chip on the right angle.
Ben Gray came close to leveling with an audacious chip from distance, but the ball dropped the wrong side of the crossbar while Gray’s stabbed effort on goal was block by Stoke keeper Dale Eve; Levy was again the creator.
Albion continued to try and control the game from midfield and Levy created another chance for himself on the half-hour mark, but his left-footed effort curled wide of the post.
But within a couple of minutes the Seagulls were dealt another sucker punch, again through Nardiello. Colquhoun made a brilliant initial stop but the rebound dropped to the Stoke winger who made no mistake from close range.
Albion looked bright again after the break and Rob Hunt, Cameron Wiltshire and Robin Deen all had decent shots saved but Stoke were clinical in front of goal to go three up, as Alabi slid the ball past Colquhoun while one-on-one.
And within three minutes it was four when Kristian Scott knicked the ball off the Albion midfield before chipping the ball over Colquhoun from all of 40 yards.
Alabi could have made it five three minutes later when he strode clear of the Albion defence but Colquhoun got the better of the striker this time.
The Seagulls pushed until the end but despite their possession were unable to penetrate the Stoke defence.
