AquaBlu- Sharm El Sheikh

I've just booked a holiday there for me and my two boys for July next year through a company called Holiday Elite, anyone been to AquaBlu ? The waterpark looks just the sort of thing my kids will love , just wondered if anyone had any tips or experiences of the hotel or the resort?

Not been myself but a mate and his family went last year, they all got ill apart from the 2 year old, spent a fortune on medicines.

So the advice from me is, take your own Immodium and stuff but go anyway, apart from that they loved it.

I definitely recommend stocking up on stomach upset medication. I've been twice and generally lucky, but it is worth spending a bit more on a nicer hotel, or if eating out, paying a bit more. Had some half decent meals at the curry house at Soho Square, but you pay about UK prices. Decent food though.

My mum and dad went a couple of years ago and got really sick. My dad said he was "shitting bovil" My advice would be to take some Bisto, it won't cure you but it will thicken it.

Do not touch the money!!! lol. Me and my wife went there on honeymoon as it was during the whole ash cloud thing and our original trip to Cuba was cancelled. We both got really ill and our Egyptian rep said a lot of the men carry money around down their pants! On a brighter note the scuba diving is epic! Are you going all inclusive?

Went a couple of years ago. We were worried about getting ill, but were told to not bother with our stuff like Imodium and use the Egyptian products as it deals with the illness better. We both got ill and were sorted out in 24 hours after using buying stuff over there. Weirdest thing is having to barter with the pharmacist!

I'd suggest you ignore the advice from people above who are suggesting you take Imodium (a Loperamide). Having worked there for 12 months, I know that it's not really diarrhoea as we know it. It's a bacteria in the stomach that causes painful cramps along with the diarrhoea, and there's a medicine available in every Egyptian pharmacy called "Antinel" which normally sorts you out completely within a few hours. Imodium can affect you quite negatively as it exacerbates the dehydration that you're already experiencing being in a very hot country (and often drinking plenty of alcohol on the all inclusive). Antinel generally costs about 50p a pack to locals - so you could ask the hotel concierge to escort you for a small tip - or about £5 to tourists. This isn't a swindle as most people think, but Egyptians do get their medication at a cheaper rate.

As for the Aqua Blu, it's nice enough. Great water park there on the hotel complex - the better of the two in Sharm, and is freely available to paying punters as with any water park. Difference is, you're generally living on site so can use the facilities every day.

Wow - lots of people with weak stomachs clearly ! Went to Sharm 3 years ago and loved it, your kids should too. Normal rules apply with eating and drinking in any hot foreign country - i.e. only drink bottled water, no ice etc etc.

Absolutely this.

My wife has been to Neweiba about 35 times, but has never got ill. Neither have I.
She always has to bring a lot of packets of Antinel back for a friend, who sends them to her husband serving in Afghan.

Go easy on the alcohol and direct sunlight. They are also part of the illness problem.

Not at all, we will hopefuly get out and see some of egypt, its pretentious country bumpkins from er, Newhaven that I prefer to stay away from, you know the type, they move to London, go to camden lock once and start thinking its the epicentre of all things cool.
