He was often seen performing on the Norfolk Bridge roundabout in Shoreham..... Quite a crazy memory from my school years
I worked with Horace for several years and it is amazing how many urban myths still exist about him - such as being engaged to a Duchess or related to minor royalty.
In reality he was just a humble cleaner living in a bedsit without much of a social circle. His main contact with people was dressing up (in tribute to his hero Max Miller)
and poncing about on the highways and byways of Worthing and the surrounding area. He loved it when people shouted abuse and would tell us about it with great glee.
A lovely bloke whose death left the world a less colourful place.

As kids we always referred to him as Burlington Bertie when he was directing traffic at Offington Corner among other places.
Sorry Ernest but when it comes to attention seeking and posing Horace had you beat hands down anytime!
