The Seagulls twice came from behind to draw but with a number of good opportunities missed, the Albion boss left The Valley feeling short changed.He told seagulls.co.uk, “It was an entertaining game and if we were more clinical in front of goal we would have won.
“It was a decent performance. We kept playing, believing and were always going forward. We played to win the game but we were always chasing the game because of disappointing goals to concede.
“We created enough chances away from home to win the game. They came in different ways too; they came from set-plays, rebounded shots and deflected shots. We should hit the target.
“I thought we were in control without being fantastic. We were in their half, passing and pushing for a goal. We were crossing, shooting and it was the way we want to show people how we play.”
Kazenga LuaLua came off the bench to score his first goal of the season, and level the scores, and his contribution pleased his manager.
“We believe in him and we know what he can bring to the side. We needed him at that time and we knew that if we put him in he would have shots because that is what he brings.
“He was very good in training this week and that is why we put him in. We are all being very positive with him and he did well today when he came on.
“It was also great goal by Macca [Craig Mackail-Smith]. That’s the way that Macca plays and when you need to pick your strikers, first you pick the top scorer. He has a better chance to start than the rest at the moment because of his goals.”
Poyet also showed his appreciation to over 3,000 travelling Albion fans who packed out the away stand at The Valley.
“It’s often the case that away fans sing more than the home fans but it even looked at times that we were winning because of our fans. They were magnificent today.
“Even when we scored to go 2-2 it was like it was the winning goal. They know us now and they probably thought that the winning goal was going to go in with the last kick of the game, but we couldn’t get it for them today. It was very nice to see a full stand behind that goal.”
Meanwhile, Poyet confirmed that Bruno was withdrawn during the second half with an Achilles problem.
“He has a kind of tendinitis in his Achilles. He’s had a few problems so he hasn’t been training properly but hopefully it’s just a little bit of tiredness. We will have to see.”
