Charlton boss Chris Powell
Charlton*boss Chris Powell his backed plans by his club’s supporters to applaud in the seventh minute today.
The gesture will mark the minute in which Colin Walsh netted with a crisp low drive in their homecoming game against Portsmouth 20 years ago.
Powell likes the idea but joked: “I hope Brighton don’t score in the seventh minute!”
Albion will have their work cut out if they are to score against Powell’s well-drilled outfit.
That is the view of the man who knows both clubs so well.
Steve Gritt is now out of work having been let go as chief scout at Bournemouth. That has allowed him to see plenty of matches, primarily at Charlton.
He said: “They seem to be coming to terms with the league now.
“They lost 4-1 to Middlesbrough and looked out of sorts.
“Chris and (assistant) Alex Dyer have turned them around. They have tightened up defensively, starting after the 5-4 win against Cardiff. Chris will be confident of getting some sort of result today.”
Read Steve Gritt on why today's game should mean a lot to fans of both Charlton and Albion - interview in The Argus today.
