Albion were held to a 2-2 draw in Wales...
Albion youth drew 2-2 with Swansea City in the Professional Development League on Saturday, but the morning turned out to be a frustrating one for Simon Rusk’s side after they let a two-goal lead slip. The Seagulls controlled the first half against the Premier League club, and it took just nine minutes until they found the net.
Following good work down the right side, Elliott Levy squared the ball to George Cousins, and he got himself into a good position to finish well.
Then on the half-hour mark Albion doubled their lead thanks to a brilliant solo goal from Bradley Barry. He broke from the full-back position and continued his run, cut inside from the right and finished with his left foot into the bottom corner.
There was only one side in the game at the break but the interval did the Welsh side good as the regrouped in an attempt to salvage something from the game.
And minutes into the second half they pulled a goal back; Albion lost possession in midfield, instigating a Swans break. The Swansea winger cut inside Matt Benham before finishing with an excellent goal into the top corner.
Swansea sensed a comeback and they drew level with 20 minutes remaining following sustained pressure. The ball was cut back to the edge of the Albion box before being drilled past Ollie Wray.
Youth team coach Rusk said, “We were excellent at times and we got two goals in the first half. We also hit the crossbar, hit the post and missed a one-on-one, so at 2-0 up we should be looking to kill the game off but we didn’t do that.
“We talked at half-time about how Swansea would come out and press us, and that‘s what they did. Unfortunately we switched off a couple of times, allowing them two shots on target and they scored two goals.
“After that, the boys regrouped and got control of the game again, but we could not get the winner. We played good football but the learning curve is to manage a lead and make sure of the win. Hopefully the boys took a lot from that.”
Albion: (4-4-2) Wray; Barry, Rea, Lall, Benham; Levy (Davis 73), Wiltshire (Collar 90), Peake, Davis; Harris, Cousins (Deen 70).
