Inigo Calderon teams up with Albion in the Community to deliver workshop...
Multi-talented right-back Inigo Calderon swapped his boots for a projector last week when he presented to a group of unemployed local people as part of Albion in the Community’s Want to Work project.
The Spaniard, who has two degrees and previously lectured students at the Amex, delivered a motivational speech – focusing on his homeland experiences and his journey to the English Championship – and co-delivered a workshop to Want to Work partner Pinnacle People.
Calderon described his friend’s struggle to find a professional club. Antonio Reguero has played in the Spanish lower leagues and was keen to ply his trade in the UK. The goalkeeper persevered and eventually signed for Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Premier League recently keeping a clean sheet in an impressive away victory at current champions Celtic.
In an inspirational lecture, Calderon explained the difference between IQ (intelligence quotient) and EQ (emotional quotient) and how the two areas affect everyday life, decision making and pathways to employment, using football situations as examples. Motivation, self-confidence, concentration, physical and psychological preparation were the key buzzwords.
Pinnacle People, who design and deliver specialist skills and training for unemployed people, have been working closely with Albion in the Community to provide a series of workshops aimed at assisting the long-term unemployed back into work.*
The company deliver programmes nationally, working to address barriers faced by unemployed people, meet employer needs and promote social and economic mobility in disadvantaged communities.
The workshops provided information, advice and guidance on a range of employability skills, and form part of an accredited qualification attractive to potential employers: the Step Up Employability Award.
Karen Milligan, service delivery manager for Pinnacle People, said, “It was fantastic to hear about Inigo’s experiences. The event inspired our customers and showed them that they can achieve their employment goals.
