Will Buckley admits his sadness about Albion's defeat to Crystal Palace...
A downbeat Will Buckley says he and the team are completely shattered by the 3-0 defeat to rivals Crystal Palace. Two penalties and an early red card for Lewis Dunk condemned Albion to a painful* loss at Selhurst Park and the winger felt particularly sorry for the travelling support.
He told seagulls.co.uk, “I am gutted for the fans because they came here in good numbers and we let them down.
“We had a bad start and the sending off changed the game but we needed to do better with ten men. We're very disappointed because we never played our game, we didn’t pass the ball or move and just because we have ten men doesn’t mean we can’t do those things.
“In the first five minutes we started well then Dunk is unlucky as it has gone under his foot, he has then brought the player down and he has to go really.
*“As soon as we went down to ten men we tried to defend and keep them out but the goal changed it as we had to go at them with a man less, which is always going to be difficult.
“We tried to get on the ball but we couldn’t the way we were playing so it was hard to get involved in the game. We all had to change and sacrifice what we needed to do out there but when they got the goal before half time that killed it.
“I am absolutely gutted to be honest, for everyone involved with Brighton and Hove Albion."
The midfielder admitted that the period just after half time had given the side a glimmer of hope but believes that is the only positive from the game.
“The gaffer changed it at half time, put a diamond in midfield and Macca got the chance. On another day he takes it and it is a different story.*
“We were happy with the start of the second half but that is about it today.
“All the goals came from set pieces too so that is disappointing but we could have done better throughout the game.”
