Gus Poyet believes the visit of Bolton Wanderers will provide his Albion team with one of their sternest tests this season...
Bolton Wanderers make their first visit to the American Express Stadium on Saturday and Gus Poyet believes they will be one of the best sides his team will face this season.Albion are on a five game unbeaten run, whilst the Trotters are also undefeated in their last four, and Poyet highlighted the threat the Lancashire outfit will pose.
He told seagulls.co.uk, “It is one of the big games. It is one of the games as a player or a fan you look forward to because it is one of the teams that have been in the Premiership for a long time, with Premiership players.
“They are strong, they are quick and technically gifted. They have options in every position, they can defend well , they can attack and they can pass the ball to the highest level, which is why they played in the Premiership.
“Without any doubt they are one of the best squads in the division so it should be a great game of football. It’s scary to a point out the quality that they can use in every position.
“It shows us how difficult it has become in this division and how important it is to work hard in the summer to recruit better players so that we can compete in a more equal manner.
“It is a fantastic game for us, especially because of the last few results, the way we have been playing and the fact the game is at home because the atmosphere is going to be magnificent. Then we will see on the result. It depends if we put the ball in the net.
Will Buckley has been stealing the headlines of late, having scored three goals in his last two games, but Poyet believes the recent from has been down to the entire team and feels the side’s team ethic will be key to earning Albion three points on Saturday.
“There are always players that can make the difference because of their ability and generally you look at the offensive players. But one of the most important things for us is that we are becoming a team in the way we play and we need everyone one to do their bit.
“Sometimes people do not realise the work of a defender and they only pay attention to the goal from Macca or Bucka, but we see the other side, for example the work from Liam Bridcutt in the middle.
“We know Bolton have got some strengths and we will have to defend that and be spot on in those areas. The aerial threat is going to be there so every set piece or cross is going to be difficult to mark, so we need to make sure we do that first.
“Then we can give the freedom to the offensive players to go and win the game. I think we need to be very good because I have been watching Bolton and they are one of the top teams in this division, no doubt, in every aspect.”
