Simon Rusk's youth team managed an impressive away victory at Manchester City..
Robin Deen came off the bench to score the winning goal in Albion youth team’s 2-1 victory away at Manchester City on Saturday.
*
The hosts took an early lead but a wonder goal from Rob Hunt pulled the Seagulls level before Deen struck the decisive blow.
*
Despite making a good start, Albion slipped behind after ten minutes through a breakaway goal for City, however Simon Rusk’s young side did not allow the early setback to disrupt their game plan.
*
Elliot Levy was off target as Albion searched for an equaliser and Glen Rea was not far off scoring his second goal in as many games.
*
Rusk’s team finally made their breakthrough just before half-time when left-back Hunt found himself in an advanced position and unleashed an unstoppable 30 yard strike into the top corner.
*
Then came the introduction of Deen on the hour mark and shortly after making his way onto the field he found the back of the net with a driven strike from just inside the area.
*
Rea was close to adding to the lead but Albion saw the game out to record a magnificent win with Rusk pleased with his side’s commitment.
*
He told seagulls.co.uk, “It was always going to be a game to look forward to and credit to the boys for their performance. We were worthy winners and played some good passing football.
*
“We stuck to the game plan after going behind, we stayed brave and kept composed on the ball. The guys have represented the club very well against good opposition and I’m very proud of them; hopefully this will give them confidence going forward to the next games.”
*
Albion (4-3-3): Colquhoun; Barry, Hunt, Rea, Lall; Peake (Wiltshire 80), Asmundsson (Cooper 80), Harris; Cousins (Deen 60), Levy (Muitt 65), Gray (Benham 65). Subs not used: Wray (GK).
