Albion cruised into the third round of the Sussex Senior Cup with a 2-0 win at Woodside Road...
First half strikes from George Barker and Torbjorn Agdestein helped Albion cruise into the third round of the Sussex Senior Cup, with a 2-0 win over Worthing.
Luke Williams’s development squad side controlled the game from the start with the Rebels unable to interrupt Albion’s passing game and the Seagulls secured their place in the hat for the next round with relative ease.
It took just 13 minutes for Albion to breach the Worthing defence, when Agdestein’s fierce low drive from the edge of the area opened the scoring.
Barker was a constant thorn in the Rebels’ side early on, and it was the development squad’s top scorer who doubled the lead on 23 minutes, when Anton Rodgers dropped the ball behind the Worthing defence and Barker controlled his first-time volley past Banasco-Zaragoza.
Just two minutes later Barker almost extended Albion’s advantage after jinking his way into the box but his powerful strike crashed off the outside of the post.
Williams’s side looked to kill the game off before the break but Rodgers saw his shot flash just wide of Banasco-Zaragoza’s left post.
Albion took their foot off the gas in the second half which gave Worthing more impetus as they searched for a way back into the tie.
And the hosts missed a glorious chance to pull a goal back just past the hour- mark when Kieron Pamment latched onto a loose ball in the area, but blazed his shot over from close range.
Pamment’s miss proved to be telling as Worthing failed to cause Albion any real trouble in the closing half-an-hour, with Willaims’s side content to see out the match.
However, Rodgers could have added some gloss to the result when he met Barker’s cross but the midfielder miscued and fired over from close range before Banasco-Zaragoza prevented Charlie Oatway from grabbing a third in injury time.
Albion: (4-3-3) Smith (GK); Akubuine, Sampayo (Hunt 75), Jones, McGiveron; Roberts, (Richards 56), March, Rodgers; Agdestein (Goodwin), Oatway, Barker. Subs not used: Colquhoun (GK).
