The club has appointed Mervyn Day as the new Scouting and Talent Identification Manager and the 57-year-old will oversee all operations within the department...
Day brings a wealth of up-to-date scouting experience from his last role as Leeds United’s chief scout and prior to that as a senior scout at Premier League side Fulham. He also has experience of senior squad management in both the top flight of English football and in the Championship from his time at Charlton Athletic. The former goalkeeper played at the highest level during his playing career, racking up over 450 appearances for West Ham United, Leeds United and Aston Villa, as well as further appearances in the Football League with Leyton Orient and Carlisle United.
Day told seagulls.co.uk, “This club has come such a long way in such a short space of time, and you only have to get a player through the front door to have a chance of signing him now.
“With the stadium and the new training ground on the horizon, Brighton has got the perfect opportunity to not only encourage kids to sign but bring in top quality players as well.
“Fundamentally, it's about players and watching as many of them and as many games as possible. I will be spreading that net as wide as I can.”
In addition to his scouting role Day will also play a major part in the club’s goalkeeper development programme, working with the academy goalkeeping staff and aspiring youth goalkeepers.
